The Weekender is our flagship 1-bedroom design with its spacious layout and luxurious features plus a contemporary, inviting look thanks to simple geometry including a sweeping skillion roof, plus the use of mixed building materials.
From the moment you enter the Weekender your attention will be drawn to the rear deck and beyond, thanks to the long, sweeping skillion roof and internal raked ceiling that open-out to the rear.
It’s a large 1-bedroom solution with 72m2 internal area. Individual walls have been specifically designed to accept “picture-frame” windows, built-in cabinetry and artwork, all of which can be adjusted to suit your needs. The addition of 3 strategically-placed covered decks ensures there’s a great flow between interior and exterior spaces, as well as plenty of space for entertaining or for much-needed privacy. The 50m2 of covered decks provides you with more than 120m2 of quality undercover space!
This design features a full-size kitchen with a massive island bench dividing the open-plan living area, perfect for foodies or individuals and couples who like to entertain. The living area is sufficiently large for a dining table at one end and lounge suite at the other. Both ends open-out to individual decks.
The bedroom and bathroom are privately tucked-away to the side of the living area. A lower skillion roof covers this section of the house, providing a balanced look to the larger, more spacious living area. The bedroom is large enough for a king bed plus additional furniture which is quite a luxury for a 1-bedroom granny flat but a great solution for couples as the bedroom + individual deck provide a private space away from the living area.
The Weekender is typically built with raked ceilings throughout which improves the amount of natural light and feeling of spaciousness.
A large stacker or bi-fold door opens-up the front entry and deck, this space looks amazing when surrounded by trees and other vegetation. At the rear of the living area, 2 bi-fold doors plus a 2-way fireplace open out to the rear deck (which can be enclosed with blinds during the colder months) to create a seamless transition between interior and exterior spaces. We recommend that the rear decks face an outlook. Windows and doors can be strategically sized and positioned for a more stunning presentation. The addition of bench-seat sills provides a relaxed feel to this design.
This is a very stylish and contemporary 1-bedroom solution with an expressive roof form and mixed use of materials that create contrasting colours and textures, typical of our “Architectural Series” of granny flat designs. Adjust the level of detailing to suit your budget.
Variations to this design include 2 and 3-bedroom architecturally-designed solutions. Check this great house extension that was based on the design for the Weekender.
